Live with a Bolivian host family

We offer accommodation with Bolivian host families, all located within a 10-minute walk from Carmen Vega Spanish School. In addition to giving you the chance to practice Spanish naturally and spontaneously, you’ll enjoy a unique experience living with welcoming families eager to share their country and culture with you.

Staying with a host family is a truly enriching experience, allowing you to understand Bolivian culture and fully immerse yourself in life in Cochabamba. As the city is a major producer of fruits and vegetables, it’s also the perfect opportunity to discover traditional dishes prepared by your hosts. Students are welcomed as full members of the family, sharing daily life, meals, and family conversations, while still enjoying their freedom and independence.

Meal

Students share three daily meals with the family, each of which reflects the family’s culinary traditions. In Bolivia, breakfast is typically Western-style (tea, coffee, bread, and jam). Lunch is the main meal of the day, usually consisting of vegetables, starches, and meat, and is sometimes accompanied by a Bolivian soup. Dinner is lighter, often a snack with tea, herbal infusions, and bread or sandwiches. If required, families also can make vegan or vegetarian meals.

Family outings

Sometimes, families invite students to join them on outings or during traditional celebrations. While this is optional, it offers a rewarding experience to share with your Bolivian family. You can also suggest activities to do together—you truly become a part of the family.

Neighborhood

Our neighborhood is calm, safe, and secure, and it’s close to downtown Cochabamba. With the many public transport options, you can easily reach the city center, the famous “Cancha” market, or the Christ of the Concordia statue. If you enjoy sports, you can run or cycle around the nearby lake, work out in gyms, relax at the pool and sauna, or play soccer, basketball, and volleyball on the many available courts.
